Crazy freeway emergency and a walk around Mall of America - Actifit: March 18 2021
So I had to go pick up my son at the Mall of America where he works. It’s about 20 minutes from where I live. All of a sudden about 2 miles from the mall the traffic stopped dead and emergency vehicles came from everywhere all at once. Then traffic was diverted off the freeway and it was shut down completely.
I only found out much later after I got home that it was no standard accident. Someone on a pedestrian bridge started shooting at cars on the freeway. (Yeah, at the cars just ahead of me!) Then the police starting shooting at him and he killed him self and fell into the freeway! I’m so glad I was just far enough back that I didn’t get tangled in that or witness it. This is is news item.
So then I got the mall and texted my son. He wasn’t answering so I went into the mall. I figured I might as well get some steps while I was waiting for him. So I walked and walked, and no text. I decided to do some mall photography. It’s quite a place.
It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but the robot is probably at least twice as tall as me.
Lego Land is always fun to visit.
So I kept walking around, taking pictures and checking my phone for messages from my son.
Everything closed at 7 and it was now well past. So employees were locking up and turning off lights and the place was emptying out.
But that made it easier to take pictures. I love the window displays. In my next life I’m going to decorate store windows for a living!
The center of the mall is an amusement park with lots of rides and roller coasters and attractions. It’s always a little eerie being there when the rides are shut down and the place is dark.
Mostly I did loops all around the shops on each floor. I discovered it’s about 1,000 steps to complete one circle. Cool, huh?
And there’s so much to see. I passed Build-a-Bear Workshop where I used to take my kids when they were small.
And Pink, the Garage and Swarovski.
Okay so I finally heard from my son. He texted me that he was getting a ride home from a friend!!
That’s okay, I suppose. I enjoyed my walk at the mall. And, knowing that something horrible had happened just ahead of me on the freeway, I felt happy to be alive.
Thanks for visiting!
