While trick-or-treating, we discovered an underground horror scene like nothing I've ever seen. Read on to see it for yourself.
Perry Street, in the quiet suburban town of Kensington Maryland, is known for becoming "Scary Perry" on Halloween.
Each house on the block does extreme Halloween decorating in their yards and homes in spooky Halloween themes. This neighborhood fright fest has been taking place every Halloween for over 20 years.
With zero effort put into advertising of any kind, the crowds that flock to Scary Perry year after year are all due to word of mouth. The street was packed with people, all dressed in costumes of varying complexities, clutching bags and buckets to store their Halloween treats.
Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted people huddled around the curb in front of one of the first houses on Perry Street. Here's a view from the middle of the street.
And here are people laying down in the street to see something....under the street??
The gap between the curb and the street, where storm water flows during heavy rains and snowmelts, was bright strobing lights. Here's us getting closer to the light shining up from under the street.

And as we approach, you can begin to make out what is clearly....
Pennywise the terrifying clown, from Stephen King's "It", a horror book-turned-movie that first aired in 1990 and was produced for the big screen again in 2017. Pennywise the clown is a bone-chilling child killer who lives in the sewers haunting the city.
And he's right here, along with some other terrifying critters.
A whole creepy scene under the street.
I briefly chatted with the man behind this installation, who told me that he's been setting up an under-the-street scene for Halloween every year since he has lived in his home - 17 years, and that he began doing it to carry on the tradition that was started by the previous owner of the house. Who knows how long this Halloween sewer scene has been appearing?
He climbs down through a manhole cover in the sidewalk, and, along with the help of his two teenage sons, creates a different eerie scene each year.
