I had the privilege of visiting Michigan's Upper Peninsula last summer, and as a geology student, it did not disappoint. The picture above shows beautiful uplifted layers of rock behind a small inlet. Also interesting, the water in the inlet is brown due to the tannins in the pine needles that fall from the nearby trees.

This is a picture of my group rappelling down an 80-ft shaft in an old copper mine. Such a blast! Copper mining was a huge industry up here in the early 1900s

This is a picture of one of the largest Banded Iron Formations in the country. The red and light striped rocks will probably never form again. The Iron in these rocks came together during a time when there was less oxygen to react with, and allowed them to form large stripes without becoming oxidized. Such a beautiful representation of Earth's history!
