First you must know it is Good to be truthful in all you do, no matter how much people may judge your truthfulness. The measure of goodness is the truth in it. The fruit Eve was enticed to eat was good, but lacked truth. The contrast is that our good which comes from God has truth in it.

What really is true when the lie seem to have more influence on people's decisions, thoughts and beliefs. I find that a lot of people have been really traumatized to easily believe the truth for what it is without first calling it out for scrutiny.
It's much like what most good Nigerians have to pass through when they are in some foreign countries who have heard about the dangerous scams being practiced, so they conclude for their protection, even when the person is good.
Same way many people are already in anoother's mind as criminal suspects until proven otherwise.
The term "too good to be true" may sound as a cliche but it has far reaching meanings than we may think. First it means not every good is true. And there is an amount of good that can be believable in the mind of the subject so when exceeded, you are not likely to be honest.
It must have began when scams began to pretend to be the real thing and then went over board to beat the highest possible good inthat sense at the point just to make people believe and buy them more.
The psyche of the normal human after being scammed a lot of times develops this defence mechanism to detect these scam and so any victim that falls into these sets of study suspect is marked and targeted.
Now it become a battle between being "honest" and being "too good to be true". Are we to measure honesty in aliquotes so there won't be an overdose of it and hence stay within a believable range for people to believe us?
Or should we just abscond on some opportunities of being "good" if they seem overly or too much.
Is Jesus too good to be true?
I ll have us consider something, it's our Lord Jesus Christ, when he was on his way to Calvary to die for the sins of the world, was he doing too much?.. Was all that necessary?
If it were possible, this cup would have passed as he honestly requested but the fathers will prevails always.
In the same way, as Jesus made the Father will fore, we too are to make the will of God come fore. Not concerned what people say or believe. Be good nevertheless. Show up, give, pray for, forgive. It doesn't matter whether they believe you or not, what matters is that God sees you.
You re not being good to be seen to be judged true by men. You are being good because our heavenly Father is truely good.
What then happens when your good is judged untrue or evil?
We are warned in the bible about this, not to make our good be evil spoken of, because your good is like your goods and services in this earth to show off the praise of God. So when you go to a market place displaying spoilt goods, it will be judged evil even though you put in some effort. What ever is good is worth doing well. So if it is showing up, show up well and early. Prepare well and smart, forgive quick and easy etc. Add value to your good. This way, it will beat the test of this world and it won't get to you no matter what they say.
Jesus did some real good and it was judged wickedness, they even called him a demoniac for healing the sick on a Sabbath day. But he saw the poverty of their minds and decided either teach them or forgive them even on the cross.
Thats the same way, we must see people who judge our good wrongly, it's the trauma and the poverty of their minds that is speaking. They don't know what they are doing. That shouldn't stop you from being good one bit, be more. Forgive them and move on with who you are, a good man, a good woman. Be good for your father in heaven is good.
How do we overcome evil with good?
The good we do is not disconnected from the truth at work in us. We do good becaue God is in us through his Spirit. Jesus Christ went about doing "good".. because God was with him. Also every beleievr must be conscious that you re doing good, backed and authorised by God himself.
It is definitely not even a warfare against evil, it is a Victory. Its like darkness and Light. Evil only prevails where good people refuse to do good just the way darkness prevails in the absence of light.
If good thrives, evil will die. So dont mind the unnamed fear of being too good to be true instead let God anoint you with that same Holyghost and power to do amazing good wherever you go.
God is good.
