We were about to go of to school when my son started shouting "Dad, carefull a Yellowjacket!"
On closer inspection this is a wonder of Dutch nature, it's Dutch name "Stadsreus" literally translates into City Giant. That is of course because this fly has evolved inside of Cities in close proximity to humans. Mimicking the colours and behaviour of the common Yellow Jacket, which is feared and loathed by a lot of people.
It is very docile, allowing me to create this photograph and making sure the world gets to see this Giant amongst flies.
