It seems to be a popular sentiment these days to portray the successful in a negative light; as if they have done something wrong in order to achieve at such high levels. We label the wealthy as greedy, entitled and participating in dishonest behavior to obtain such economic prosperity. We label the successful entrepreneur as a “workaholic” and anti-social. We label the competitive athlete as not being intelligent and shallow. This way of thinking is not only unfair to those that have sacrificed to excel but detrimental to your own ability to be successful in the future. Whether we realize it or not, those that achieve act as a social measuring stick for our life and the things we have (or have not) done. Instead of using this as a constructive reminder that greatness is possible, jealousy (and it is jealousy), typically makes it much easier to be critical and downplay their accomplishments. If you wish to be a successful person you must first eliminate the contempt you have FOR the successful:

You Reap What You Sow
How can you ever become a great Basketball player if you think all athletes are stupid? How can you amass riches if you constantly tell yourself that money is the root of all evil? How will you find a worthy significant other if you are convinced that all men are liars and cheats? The answer to all of these questions are the same…you won’'t. In order to achieve a desired result your philosophy must be in line with it. You simply cannot put 100% of your body into something if your mind is not on board (because your mind is your body). Just as you cannot be in two physical places at once you cannot think two conflicting principals at once. By resenting those who have obtained success you are in turn resenting yourself future (successful) self; the mind cannot voluntarily follow a path that it does not agree with.

Convincing Yourself That You DO NOT WANT the very thing you WANT?
We, as humans, we want things that we do not have. When we see others that possess the very object of our desire it is natural to react in a jealous manner; however, it is important to recognize this jealousy and write it off as a childish (but inherently human) reaction. If this is not done, those feelings of jealousy can manifest into misdirected anger towards the achieving individual. This is why we can find ourselves criticizing people who are better looking than us, more wealthy, happier, etc. What is essentially going on is that we are trying to convince ourselves that we are somehow better off without the object of our desire than with it. Not only does this trend of behavior make NO SENSE, but it leaves you fighting YOURSELF … in the end, no one wins.

Excuses Sound Best to The Ones Making Them Up
At the end of the day criticizing those that have obtain success is nothing more than an excuse. Instead of imitating that person (who obviously has a winning formula) you find it easier to put them down. If you truly desire success it is critical to acknowledge why we as people tend to do this; simply put, because it’s easier. It is easier to mock someone instead of taking action. Stop giving yourself the excuse from pursuing what you want. Stop downplaying others achievement; doing that brings you no closer to your won. YOU DESERVE to achieve success so remove all negative inclinations and habits that derail you from the goal.

Think Well. Achieve More. Live Better.
