Every students are entitled to a particular textbook for a particular course or subject, the problem is not getting textbook but reading and understanding the given textbook.
Some textbook are too voluminous such that when we try to read them we discouraged or we may dump them and look for a better option.
But it is very important as a student to read the textbook recommended by the lecturer or the school based on your discipline.
These days, students finds it's difficult to read and assimilate a textbook which can lead to failure in the exams because a textbook is an exposure of the reality of a particular course because a lecturer can't teach you everything, he or she tends to teach you based on his knowledge and the ability to recall what he has learnt.
Note that textbook might not actually be that BIG book you think, it's might be a manual in as much it was printed, written by authors and published. A textbook can't be a handout.
So, the biggest question is how can we read and understand a textbook?

HOW TO READ AND UNDERSTAND A TEXTBOOK.
First, make up your mind the particular topic you want to read and make sure the materials listed above has been provided.
Secondly, start to read from the first paragraph, use the red pen to underline useful statement (Make sure you use red pen).
Thirdly, if there is any word you don't understand, use the dictionary or the Internet.
Fourthly, after reading a paragraph, open your little note and write a summary or what you have read, don't use exactly the words used in the textbook, generate your own words. Repeat this for every paragraph you read.
Lastly, when writing your summary, try to make your writings tiny, I promise you it will help(Based on experience)
After all these, map out time to go through your summary not your textbook this time, this will help in total assimilation of that topic.

Create a separate space on your note book and state all the formulars in the textbook, this is important.
Following these steps will make you understand a textbook, using the dictionary always will hasten matters.
