This is a very interesting topic for many and for myself as well. Some of you like 
I know not all of us will agree to just one idea, so you are more than welcome to share your thoughts and be open minded about it. I don't think there may be many wrong or rights ideas.
With everything I've read and experienced, there is definitely some life after we die, whether we pass to the other side or not (The source or like many called "heaven"). I want you to have very clear that Earth is a place for human experience and it's all about the journey to evolve spiritually and learn many lessons.
I do also agree that ONE life is not ENOUGH to learn all lessons we all want to experience. That's why I have a very strong believe about reincarnation. Many of us die believing the color yellow is really blue, when it was yellow all along. I want to translate this thought by saying that you probably thought at some point that earth was flat in one life and you died with that believe; when in fact it was not flat.
So, some of my ideas come from a lot of curiosity to find out why we all came to this place and what the purpose of it is. Some people that are called "Spiritual Mediums" could actually be some "Guide" (ONLY) in order to put all your own ideas together when it comes to this topic. I've read many books of some Mediums that in fact have this gift whether you believe it or not. One source I can provide about some of my thoughts is:
Again, you do not have to believe everything they say. You have to have your critical thinking.
We all come and decide the main points we want to experience. We sign up with some sort of a contract that states what you would like to experience. How you would like to experience it is totally up to you once you are on Earth. I see this contract as some main outline (main topics) where the way it will be broken down is totally up to us.
Pleiadians
There are some other sources like other civilizations in different galaxies that have backed up this concept or idea. The Pleiadians for instance, they believe and have confirmed through Science that we reincarnate and we all have lived hundreds if not thousands of lives in our spiritual journey.
After we die, we basically have the choice to re incarnate again or just come back to the source to have a break from our soul developing. There are big reasons why we are in this planet and we will all see it in the next 10 years with all financial and believe changes that will happen in our systems. It will literally blow your mind what is about to come with a lot of revelations of bible lies and alien disclosures (which is a topic for a different post) that will change our entire believe system.
