Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing to you from Cape Town in South Africa!
This is my 56th week in a row contributing to "Three Tune Tuesday", an initiative started by @ablaze. It is week 121 overall!
My new pattern for how I will be contributing to TTT is to take the Hive Open Mic challenge Theme of the Week and give suggestions on how I would tackle it!
For those of you who are not familiar, the Hive Open Mic is a weekly challenge on the Hive Open Mic community for anybody who loves to sing. You don’t even need to play an instrument, a backing track or a cappella is also fine as far as I can tell!
Different artists are given the chance to choose a “Theme of the Week” that the posts should be based on. Often it can be difficult for people to think about easy songs that might fit that theme… so let me see if I can be of any assistance to the people who still might not know what to try by the time Tuesday comes around!
All right! Let’s get cracking!
Here is the post inviting everyone to participate in this week’s Hive Open Mic (Week 180):

As you can see, it was the turn of @josueelinfame to pick a theme, and this week the theme is “Disney”!
Disney! How wonderful! The only problem is I don’t actually think anybody will need my help in thinking up a Disney song… there have been many, many fantastic Disney songs that are so beloved and stuck in our heads since our own childhood! I think this is a wonderful opportunity for everybody because it means we can tackle songs that are entrenched deep within us, which gives us all a chance to do well! It is often hard to learn new melodies in a few days, and even if you have to learn how to play a Disney song on an instrument quickly for the first time, the fact that you’ve known the song since your childhood is going to make this week easier, and probably lots of rewarding fun as well! Perhaps this is the week that some people on the fence contribute to the Hive Open Mic for the first time!
So, I must share the videos of only three? Ah man, how about some honourable mentions that I could probably sing the chorus of right now…
“Let it Go” from “Frozen”
“Hakuna Matata” from “The Lion King”
“The Circle of Life” from “The Lion King”
“Kiss the Girl” from “The Little Mermaid”
“Beauty and the Beast (Tale as Old as Time)” from “Beauty and the Beast”
“High Ho (It’s off to Work we go)” from “Snow White and the 7 Dwarves”
“(Ooo ooo ooh) I Wanna be Like You” from “The Jungle Book”
‘Another Arabian Night” from “Alladin”
“Prince Ali (Fabulous He)” from “Alladin”
Okay, but seriously here are the three songs I think I could recite the vast chunk of right now…
“A Whole New World” from “Alladin”. What a song! This may be even more fun if you can team up as a duo with somebody of the opposite gender, or if you have a sense of humour, tackle both parts by yourself!
“The Bare Necessities” from “The Jungle Book”. I think all three of my picks are the pinnacle songs from the 3 Disney movies that may have had the best music overall as well? Each of these movies had other killer songs including some I mentioned in the honourable mentions above! Still, “The Bear Necessities” is what I remember singing myself as a child and tackling the tongue twisters of “If you pick a pawpaw or a prickly pear, and you get a raw paw, next time beware” and “if you look under the rocks and plants and take a glance at the fancy ants”… just inspired word play!
Finally, one of the most iconic and feel good songs in Disney history… “Under the Sea” from “The Little Mermaid” as Sebastian the Jamaican-sounding crab tries to convince Ariel the Little Mermaid to forget about life on land and enjoy being a mermaid under the Sea. As a surfer I kind of see his point, but unfortunately she didn’t!
So, which of these three songs am I going to tackle for this week? I’m not sure yet – let’s see what feels right on the day!
So that's week 121 done and dusted! I hope that gave some people some ideas on how to tackle the Hive Open Mic Challenge this week? Perhaps I’ve even inspired one or two new people to give it a try? Please let me know!
