@jasperdick: 1st Anniversary on HIVE - How is it going? (ENG/ESP)
(Traducción al español al final del post)
Hello everybody on HIVE! My name is Jasper, and I am writing to you from Cape Town in South Africa.
I have looked at my Profile Page and have realised that I joined HIVE on this day, 14 April, last year. A full year is complete!
How has it gone for me?
Well, I found HIVE quite confusing at first. How the rewards worked, what to post about, how to engage with people, and how to set goals…
As you can see from the chart, I started out quite slow. Then, when I took a holiday from about weeks 10 to 15, I did hardly anything at all!
So, what changed such that I have been able to grow my staked HP at an average of about 100HP a week from then on?
I PLAYED TO MY STRENGTHS
I realised that it is important to post about the things that you are passionate about. In my case, it was my two main hobbies: making music (I am a singer-songwriter by night) and surfing!
I GOT LOCKED INTO A SET PATTERN OF POSTS
HIVE is awesome for musicians who can learn songs relatively quickly, because there are many recurring weekly posts you can join in on:
The Singing Voice / La Voz Cantante (Pukumundo Community): Pick a cover song that is rock or metal, or even a genre that led to these kinds of music (like blues), and just sing it! You can post every week! I usually post this one on MONDAY.
Three Tune Tuesday (Music Community): You don’t even have to be a musician. Anyone can post their links to three songs and explain why they chose them. @ablaze then decides a winner for the week (who currently gets 9HBI as a reward). I actually play covers of the three songs, as well as post the original videos, and obviously I post this one on TUESDAY.
Hive Open Mic (Hive Open Mic Community): These guys set a theme for the week and then you have to sing a song that matches the theme as best you can. This is quite challenging. I usually post this one on WEDNESDAY.
Cover Request Challenge (Music Community): This is actually something I started. When I had no voting power at all, I felt bad that I couldn’t reward the people who were consistently supporting me. Then I realised you could add beneficiaries to your own posts… I decided to ask people for cover requests every week, and then pick a song to play and give the account that chose the song 50% of the post rewards in HP! This has been super challenging, but has helped me become much better at learning songs fast! Next THURSDAY (Episode 30) will be my final post of this type, so please go over to this post and make a cover request in the comments section? (@jasperdick/fcfcbkqj)
Hive Music Festival (Music Zone Community): Here you can do just about anything! For the first 22 weeks I posted my original songs. Now that I have run out of those, I am doing covers where I have to use a weird instrument (rather than just my primary instruments of guitar, harmonicas and vocals). So far, I have done the kazoo, the pennywhistle, my grandfather’s old autoharp and my baby daughter’s toy xylophone… so this is lots of fun! I usually post this one on FRIDAY.
So, because I am so locked into this pattern of 5 (soon to be 4) posts on set days of the week, I feel committed to it and have even done these video posts while on holiday!
I then add a surfing post almost every time I can find the opportunity to get to the beach (and I am challenging myself to try a new surf spot every month)!
I MADE A PLAN/GOAL
Somewhere along the way I decided that I wanted to focus on accumulating HP as fast as possible, averaging 100HP, until I achieve “dolphin status” (About 5610HP). I started taking my rewards for each post in 100% HP.
Why do I want to be a dolphin so badly? As a surfer, it sounds cooler than minnow? Hahaha! Actually, it’s more to do with:
•Your vote on other people’s posts start to actually be worth a little something, such that you feel like you are giving back to your communities.
•Your weekly curation rewards start to be around 8-10HP, or the equivalent of a decent extra post per week…
So, where do I stand after exactly 1 year?
•I have made 220 posts not including this one…
•I have accumulated a Reputation Score of 70.67
•I currently sit on about 4700 HP… So hopefully dolphin status comes in the next 3 months.
Did you know there are currently less than 2000 accounts of dolphin and above? I look forward to joining that number!

(@jasperdick/fcfcbkqj)
Hive Music Festival (Comunidad Music Zone): ¡Aquí puedes hacer casi cualquier cosa!
