A shiver ran down my spine as I arrived in this dreary village.

Decrepit houses of rotting wood displayed broken windows and doors that groaned as they opened.

The few inhabitants who wandered the streets looked ghostly: spectral faces, sunken eyes and vacant stares.

-We have arrived --she murmured in a deadpan voice before stepping out of the taxi without further explanation.

I watched her walk away, melting into the thickening shadows.

Something wasn't right.

Suddenly, everything was plunged into complete darkness.

An icy cold paralysed me.

I was no longer sure of getting out of there alive.
