As the murmurs of the crowd grew with terrifying foreboding, my friend neared his doom.

No one but me knew his true heart; the lies that now bound him would not stand the light.

From the shadows I watched, waiting for my chance to act.

When the executioner stepped forward, black hood raised to do his grim work, that's when I struck.

-Halt! -My cry pierced the air, silencing everything. -This man is innocent, framed by dark designs. The true villain will be unmasked at dawn.

Hope flared as wary eyes turned to me.

My pen would save him, creating at dawn a story that would bring the whole truth to light. The day was won; justice would be done.
