You can live your life more authentically if you learn how to be more social. You can easily stop being shy, anxious, and quite during social interactions by having the courage to socialize more often. As you know it, humans are social beings, we just can’t live without each other. It is very important for humans to live together because it gives us a sense of being loved, cared for, and makes us feel important. We can’t function as efficiently as we do without being more outgoing and social.

Imagine a life where a person spends all of his or her time alone—they are always alone at home, and even outside. They can’t express their opinion on the latest movie that came out, nor can they go out and enjoy the latest Italian restaurant that just opened a few days ago. Being shy and quite leads to nowhere. Imagine you see someone you really like, and you know that you will never get to see them again in your life, what would be more productive? You going to that person and talking to them or being shy and quite as you wait for them to come to you? Of course, the first one. By being more social, you can make new friends, keep the old ones as well, most importantly, you won’t waste the opportunities life gives you every once in a while.

How to Be a Social Person

I was once very shy, but by working on myself and putting myself out there more than I didn’t want to, made me more social. I’ll help you discover yourself and make you become more social and outgoing by sharing some of the important ideas I learned while I was on my journey to becoming more social.

The most common mistake people make when trying to become more social is that they rush into it. They are in such a rush that they just want to skip the entire process of socializing to become social—it makes no sense. It’s like wanting to fill your stomach with food without eating food.

What they need to do is to take it slowly. You need to understand that Rome wasn’t built in a day. I know you want to be the person everyone calls when they need help. I know you want to become a person that always has something interesting to say, or always remembers the name of everyone they meet. But you need to realize it will take time.

Start by going out of the house more and then slowly build yourself up by talking to that kind old man in the neighborhood who always takes his dog for a walk in the evening. Slowly but surely, you will become the life of the party that everyone loves.

The second big problem that people face when trying to be more outgoing and social is that they don’t know the first rule of socializing.

For example, they never seem to know when they should ask someone a personal question like a work colleague or when is the right time to ask them such a question, the answer is simple—firstly, you can ask them a personal question and secondly, you can ask them this question after you get to know each other just a little bit, professionally.

You need to practice and learn the rules of socializing by reading books and asking help from friends and family members. Don’t follow the rules literally, just learn them and improvise as you socialize each day with different people. Find your own style that you are comfortable with.

Another problem that people face while learning to be more social is that they never get out of their heads.
They will be harsh on themselves, keep thinking of inauthentic ways to impress other people, and put themselves down when they do something wrong. They are their own worst critics, literally.

The simple way you can fix this is by being less interested in yourself and more interested in other people. In just a matter of time, by focusing on others, you will become more confident on how to express yourself during social interactions.

Often times, the problem is very deep. People aren’t social because they lack social skills, it’s because they are unhappy with the way they perceive themselves.

Some people might think they are not attractive enough to socialize, often times it is not true but you need to realize beauty is subjective, but that should not stop you from trying to improve yourself.

By simply going to the gym, and working out every day can improve your mood, exponentially. It will increase your confidence which will help you become more social and outgoing.

Fix whatever you do not like about yourself, and accept what you can’t change. In just a matter of time, you will gradually become the life of the party that everyone loves.
