Never post outside of a Community on Hive

Every rule has an exception and Mayne "never" is hyperbole but it's pretty darn close to the truth. There are so many drawbacks and very little if any benefits to posting directly to your blog it should almost not be allowed... at least I can do my best to heavily discourage it.

When posting on PEAKD, you want to take advantage of all the tools we've created over the year to make your writing and reading experience the most enjoyable it can be. In fact, I've talked extensively about you as the users being part of this whole process to making PEAKD what it is today. A few months ago, I gave a talk at HiveFest about this very process where we included many of YOU to tell us what you want on an updated platform.

Why Use a Community for your Posting?

One area that's very helpful for your posts is to organize them in communities. Here's why you want to create your posts in a specific community that pertains to the content you're writing:

1. You have almost no moderation help or recourse outside of communities.
2. You can add your post to your blog and remove your post at anytime if you post to a community, but if you post directly to your blog, you have no option to remove that post later.
3. Cross-posting to a community is not nearly as good.
4. More people see your posts as they see community pages and community feeds.

You want as many eyes on what you've written, right? So be sure to choose a community that fits what you're writing. Not only will others be thrilled to read your content, but you're also reaching the appropriate people who are interested in that topic. For example, I post a lot of my photography, but I also talk about Splinterlands, PeakMonsters and other topics. In order to be sure the right audience sees my posts, I make sure to post under the correct community.

Supporting Communities Also Builds Lasting Relationships

When you create posts into a specific community, those people will come to know you, and you'll come to know them. You'll help build the community and develop lasting relationships on common interests, which makes communities a positive in all ways. I hope you'll get into the habit of using them, because they do bring you many rewards and the community will be so happy to have engagement in their group.

How to Create a Post in a Community

In case you're not sure how to post in a community, let me show you the process.

1. First, look across the top of PEAKD and you'll see several words with dropdown menus. One of those menus is communities.
   
2. Click on communities so that it drops down the list of communities you're following. Now, if you're not following any communities, go EXPLORE them! Type in your interests in the search bar and the world is at your fingertips!
   
   
   
3. Once you've followed some communities, then you want to choose the appropriate community based upon what your post will be discussing. You can see here in the picture above the community I chose for this post was "About PeakD," because I'm writing a post about the features of PeakD.
4. After you've chosen the community, click on the "write a post" and you're ready to go!
   
5. You can double check that you're actually writing a post within the community by looking at your draft area.
   
   You will see it tells you exactly where your post will be going (the example in the picture shows my post will appear in "About PeakD." You can also see the blue button called "rules." These rules refer to the requirements of the community. Some communities have more rules than others, so be sure you check them before posting, but if you miss a rule or step, a moderator will come help you fix the problem.
