How it became one of my favorite songs.
This song was written by Matt Redman and a friend. Matt sings it as well. Probably millions of others do too.
I don't listen to a lot of music. Since I don't deliberately listen on my own for the most part, the best chance I would have to listen is when I'm driving in the car. I would be listening, but my radio doesn't work, so I don't hear music that way.
I know I heard the song before by watching various inspiration TV shows. I was oblivious when they were singing it. They must have sung it many times, and I heard it but I wasn't connecting.
One day I was flipping through the channels and accidentally turned to a show where a large choir was singing the song. I flipped the channel again. A thought came to my mind that it was familiar, I "heard" it before, though I wasn't paying attention.
I turned it back to the choir, and that's when I really listened for the first time, and it grabbed me in and I realized what a fabulous song that was as far as my preferences go.
I went on to find out about Matt Redman and his wife Beth. They each have their own story separately and a story together. There's even a story about how the Lord blessed them with more children. Reverend Nicky Gumbel made videos that have preserved personal interviews about their lives. Mike Pilavachi was greatly involved and played a major part in their lives as well.
There's a video where Matt and his band group walk into I think a church in England for the acoustics and play and sing.
I would watch it and listen over and over again as it is online.
I don't do that anymore. I still remember it as one of my few favorite songs. It's a blessing whenever I do hear it, and still grabs me in.
It's great that music can touch us even when we aren't particularly interested.
