In my case, I like to play a lot with colors, and being lousy at drawing (馃槶) I resort to it to achieve a result many times more similar to a digital drawing style than a "pure" portrait. In this post, I go through several images in which I increase the level of manipulation. In all cases, the intention is to work in Fine Art style, taking advantage of the fact that I was in a friend's studio and that the studio conditions for this type of photo are much better than on location.
In the first photo, I did retouching and color correction, and in the second one, I started to use the blending brush to give it a little more of the porcelain skin style, very used in digital drawing. In the third one, the change is bigger, because here we also modified the hair color and worked a little with the liquefy tool. In the fourth we increase the manipulation to look more and more like a drawn image because I tell you, I love this style 馃槀, here we retouch, we correct the color and tone of skin and hair, we liquefy, but the girl still looks like her, however in the last image, I wanted to take it to another extreme, which is more "experimental" more for me, because obviously, the model serves as a base to achieve what I want but, it is not a "her" photo itself.
In the last image, I had clear that I wanted to transform her to almost look like a drawn image, here I added fantasy makeup (...a little inspired by the video "Ojos Rojos" by Nicky Jam 馃槀) generated entirely digitally, I modified the highlights of her hair to make them whiter and create a better contrast with the predominant red. I used the liquefy tool on hair, nose, and lips, a blender brush to achieve the porcelain skin, the essential D&B, and color correction with Camera Raw. Oh, and a Gaussian blur for the edges to achieve a little Dreamy style.
I particularly love the use of digital editing and it's what brought me to the photographic world, you can't always, nor should you, make excessive use of it, because the truth is it's very easy to ruin a photo during the editing process. I have done it, hence I say it from experience. In this case, since the session I knew that the photos would be for something like this, in fact, more like the last image, only that for the post, I wanted to reflect a little bit let's say, stages or levels of what can be achieved with digital image processing tools. There are many of these: Gimp, Lightroom, Capture One, and Darktable, I prefer without a doubt Photoshop, although I prefer to do the initial development in Capture One for incredible benefits in the recovery of shadows and highlights.
At the end of the post I leave screenshots of the process of the last image, so you can see better the step-by-step transformation.
I hope you like it and don't hesitate to leave me your opinion. I wish you a great day!
