I woke up still asleep in the middle of a dream.
Drifting along slowing in my own subconsciousness stream.
I had transcended to a higher mental plane.
On a voyage of discovery to there and back again.
Stephen Hawking walked right up with me and said hello.
He told in this dimension anything is possible just go with the flow.
Now Stephen is definitely one smart guy, so I never doubted him.
So I just took my mental boots of doubt off, and I dived right in.
The current was stronger under the surface of my subconsciousness stream.
I passed the Beatles travelling the opposite direction in their Yellow Submarine.
John Lennon shouted out an open porthole why hello Paul, heavens above.
I shouted how do you get to heaven John, he answered all you need is love.
I swam a little further until I finally found the first sign of dry land.
There stood a fairytale castle before me made out of kaleidoscopic sand.
This was the land of the sandman but I was not asleep.
I walked across the giant drawbridge and deep into its keep.
There I saw a dejected jester sat upon a golden throne.
He didn't look in the laughing mood so I thought I'd best leave him alone.
I noticed he held an fancy hourglass in his right hand.
He said that time was as fleeting as these falling grains of sand.
The sandman whispered to the jester and the jester spoke no more.
As the sandman beckoned me to enter through another open door.
There hung portraits everywhere of the great and the good lining every wall.
I found myself attending a great feast in a huge banqueting hall.
When I walked in the whole place went silent you couldn't hear a thing.
Then everyone raised a glass and shouted long live the king.
I wasn't sure what was going on I didn't understand.
Until Albert Einstein told me about the relativity of dreamland.
He said anything is possible in this deep dream state.
So I pinched a piece of fried chicken of Elvis Presley's dinner plate.
Elvis didn't bat an eyelid he said you are welcome to it my king.
Then he handed me a silver platter of crispy chicken wings.
Marilyn Monroe came over and gave me a cheeky little kiss and she said hi.
Bob Marley just high fived me and said, it all be cool Jah Rastafari.
So I quoted John Lennon and said love is all you need.
Bob said dat be true man, plus a little bit of weed.
He said here in dream land everything be alright.
Until Laurel and Hardy started a massive custard pie fight.
This Dreamland of mine was turning surreal it is a crazy place.
As Bob Dylan took a custard pie directly to the face.
I don't think Bob was all that happy he didn't look amused.
He looked like he was suffering from those subterranean homesick blues.
The whole place had turned to bedlam in was going insane.
There was too much information and it was frazzling my brain.
I saw the jester in the corner he had left the golden throne.
He said he had to tell me something could we have a moment alone.
For the first time I saw the jester close up and he looked like me.
I said this isn't possible how can this be.
He said all I know is you are as much a jester as you are a king.
There are no real answers in Dreamland to explain such things.
But be wary of the sand as he watches you sleeping.
Strange things can happen when you are in the sandman's keeping.
Travelling to deeply into this dreamland can be a huge mistake.
The further down the rabbit hole that you venture, the harder it is to wake.
At the moment the faces in the portraits looked down at me from the wall.
Then shadow monsters appeared and started to fall.
The jester tried to shake me awake from inside my dream.
As the shadows started to envelope me I heard the jesters scream.
It chilled me to the bone, it nearly stopped my heart.
As I ran back through my dream the sandcastle fell apart.
All the crazy hazy visions i had witnessed went quickly flashing past.
The last thing I saw was the sandman holding in his hands a fancy hourglass.
I had slipped through his grasping fingers and out from under his keeping.
It's no wonder why I find I always have such fucking trouble sleeping.
