The morning sun is rising
as I try to write this all down.
Last night I threw up barricades
in another place ,another town.
After all the ineffective words
nothing we said felt right.
My heart rose in my throat
when you confessed to me your sin.
But I would not let the tears come
I couldn't give you that win.
When did this foreign presence arrive
where did these ways come from?
You said it wasn't money, sex or variety
If it had been I might have won.
You said you needed a different kind of love
what I offered you said was all wrong.
But you hid behind deceit, not a word
no chance for me to sing my song.
I took a look at our marriage bed
where you had loved with a stranger.
But with your walls, your windows locked
I never even glimpsed the danger.
Some words are sasy, but not quite right
for the betrayal I felt a dull, empty feeling.
So I walked out the door, without a slam
the images in my mind had me reeling.
Now as I sit and write this down
in a different place ,a different town
I look outside and to my surprise
I see the morning sun going down.
I sat and drank, wrote too long
I feel like the victim in a country song.
