People have become experts at ignoring the suffering of others way before the pandemic arrived, that's for sure. I'm in the UK, and a very large portion of the population is most definitely like that, I see it on a daily basis. It's almost as if the empathy gene is slowly being stripped from our DNA.

That said, I do see a fair amount of kindness too, so it's maybe not all bad. I have, perhaps naively, been hoping that people will begin to show more empathy toward one another as a result of the pandemic. It would be nice if something good came out of this to counteract the seemingly endless amount of negativity. But we'll see. I'm hopeful, but also realistic!
