I had to say goodbye to a friend yesterday.

I didn't not want to let her go, but to hold on to our sad reality would do more harm than good.

There were times in the recent past when I wanted nothing more than to be by her side and navigate our future as her co-pilot. However, there was no healthy flight plan that would allow this to happen without serious considerations to my own well being.

Throughout our lives we take on various responsibilities, and attempt to remain accountable for the trials and tribulations that occur as a result of signing our name on the dotted line.

In another time, in another place, in another world, her friendship and support could have been all that I ever needed, but thinking on that would be like a dog chasing its own tail, so I digress.

It is sad to think that she will function better as a happy memory in the past than a sad and constant reminder of paths not found, and roads not taken.

Every time I smell a hint of vanilla, or see vibrant purple in the world, I will cherish the grateful memory and appreciate the times we had.
