Identity matters - or does it?

I self-identify as a heterosexual male human. My preferred pronouns are he/him/himself. I ask that you respect my choices and lifestyle. Don't look down on me just because I happen to coincidentally align with my biological traits.

Some people might be offended by this. Why? I do not seek to coerce others. I may be accused of "privilege," but this nebulous term is just a dismissal rather than a rational argument. Some people may suffer from more abuse at the hands of others than do I, but that is not really what "privilege means."

"Privilege" would imply some special authority, right, or benefit that is granted to me over others. I claim no additional rights for myself that I do not equally respect in other people. A rational understanding of rights requires that they be reciprocal and universal. Rights are "negative," meaning that they impose no positive obligation upon others. I don't demand anything of anyone else beyond non-aggression. I owe nothing to anyone else beyond non-aggression. I assert that no one has the authority to initiate coercive force against another, regardless of skin color, age, gender, sexual identity, or any other factor. I have yet to see a rational argument for such authority.

Perhaps we will never live in a world where everyone follows these principles, but if you have read this, you have the opportunity to choose. Choose wisely. Respect others. Live free.
