It has been a few days since my last post, and on the off chance anyone is waiting with bated breath for my next Rough Drafts architecture post, it is in the works. I have been somewhat under the weather, and aside from rehashing some political grievances, haven't had the wherewithal for serious creative work.

Besides, not only have I been trying improved kitchen layouts compared to that in my previous floor plan post, but the next step of section drawing and details has been a continuation of my long-overdue struggle with re-learning a slightly-different set of CAD commands as I rebuild a personal library of blocks, set standards I like, and research forgotten tidbits of construction.

Projects in the works

• Design a proper title block for my blueprints (progress has been made)
• Finish adjusting my dimension standards so everything looks clean (minor adjustments)
• Continue drawing sections and details
• Once those are done, start drawing elevations
• Look up verbiage for notes from my archives of old work (boilerplate for the most part, but I need to write it up properly)

Once this is all done, it's easy enough to save a template for future projects and speed up the entire process. Building everything from scratch is a lot of background work with nothing immediate to show for it.

I'm also looking into traditional alternatives to modern materials for a healthier home, since pressure-treated lumber, plywood, etc. can release harmful chemicals, and modern materials can actually trap moisture leading to mold problems instead of allowing enough ventilation to prevent it.

Does this mean the affordable starter home will be designed for lath-and-plaster walls? No. However, I am considering everything from more traditional materials to cutting-edge innovations as I think ahead to future projects.

I've been dealing with some kind of lingering intestinal upset for a few days, and I have a massive headache today that won't go away, so I'll be returning to radio silence for the time being. I'll still try to upvote stuff, make the occasional comment, and participate on the curation and conversation side of HIVE, but content creation will wait for now. Maybe I'll have something in a few days. Maybe not. Stay tuned!
