Hello Everyone!
Getting in motion early, Raking leaves, Trimming grape vines, Tending the roads & A hard nap to wake from!
Alright, it is well after sunset and I am just now beginning to work on this entry... as I attempt to shake off the mental fog that remains from taking a super long nap. If it were not for needing to get up and feed the dogs I would most likely still be snoozing away... and I probably would have done so all night long given how wiped out I am feeling.
To be clear there... I awoke before dawn this morning and after doing a bunch of stuff online I shifted gears to doing things outdoors... and did not slow down until very late in the day. At which point I fell fast asleep telling myself something along the lines of 'you can take a forty minute nap and be right back up' all the while... knowing full well that I was probably going to sleep for a much longer period of time.
What I did not expect was just how many times of waking back up to the dogs doing their 'wake up daddy' song and dance that I would do... before I actually mustered the will power to do so. At one point while laying there (slightly awake) I had even convinced myself to skip the writing altogether for the evening and to just feed the dogs after I slept for a few more hours!
I am unsure what finally roused me all the way awake but even now I kind of just want to go back to sleep because I am just that tired! Maybe once this espresso that I am drinking kicks in I will not feel the way that I do... but so far everything still has that 'surreal underwater feel' to it that I often associate with being half-awake.
Anyways, at some point this afternoon I knocked out my daily chores and then decided that raking all the leaves up along the downhill side of the dog yard was not all that bad of an idea. Initially I was thinking to just trim back the grape vines there... but then I had one of those 'aha moments' where I realized that if I raked up the leaves first that trimming back the grape vines would be much easier!
As is often the case 'one thing lead to another' from there and after raking the leaves up (and mounding them to be hauled to the compost) I trimmed back all the vines on the inside of the fence. Which really was not all that arduous... as much as it was downright tedious given how many smaller vines (branches) that there were coming off the main stalks.
Once all that jazz was done I then raked all the 'trimmed off vine parts' into the same mound with the leaves and headed off with the handheld pruners to trim back the roads. Having just recently trimmed back the vegetation along the roads there really was not a whole lot to do but there were a few spots that I wanted to get which had 'grown back' since the last trimming.
All in all it was nice hiking around the place and giving both the conditions of the road and the state of the vegetation a critical eye and honestly I felt very pleased with both. Apparently all my small efforts over time have been paying off and (at least in my mind) the place has a slightly (yet subtle) manicured look. As a side note I also used the chance to cut back a few of the larger 'hitchhiker' plants so maybe I will stop getting them on my boots when I am out hiking around.
At this point I am kind of foggy on how the remainder of the day unfolded but I clearly recall thinking that I had gotten a heck of a lot done before I drifted off to sleep for that late day nap! I also recall thinking that I had made a fine start to the 'work cycle' during the cold weather season that I mentioned in yesterday's entry.
Hopefully, I can gradually build up some momentum over the coming days and not get too manic with it all... which often leads me to doing too much 'floundering around' for my liking. In other words... as much as I want to throw myself into the work... experience and mayhaps 'wisdom' dictate that I ease into it instead and avoid burning myself out 'before I ever get started' so to speak.
On a different note, I have overcome my dodgy internet problems by tethering my other phone that has the very limited data plan. Since the monthly plan on it is almost up I figured that I may as well 'burn through' the data before it expires... because hey I am paying for it after all! It sure has made everything much less annoying today and played a big part in making having such a productive day possible... so I hope I do not use up all the data before my other connection gets sorted out and starts working better again!
Well, I have rambled on enough for one evening and am going to get to working on editing, proofreading and posting all of this before the hour grows much later. I hope that everyone is doing well and has a nice time.
Thanks for reading!
