Man Stretching by Mike Jackobo
Man stretching inside the Stoa of Attalos, in the ancient Agora of Athens. The archaeological site of the ancient agora is very large and as it was one of the central places in the ancient city, it is full of the remnants of ancient infrastructure from different periods of history. All those ancient artifacts plus the amount of people visiting the place, make it an excellent place for photography.
One of the ways to make street photography is to stay in one place and try to be ready for any photographic opportunity. I stayed in the Stoa of Attalos with the visitors for quite a while as they admired the ancient artefacts. Suddenly, I noticed this man stretching by the column. The empty space behind him, defined by the lines of columns, offers no distractions to the main subject. So, despite having to place the man in an undesirable place in the frame*, the rest of the composition forces the eye to return to him. This compositional trick makes the photo even more eye captivating and it's one of my favourites.
*- The lower left corner is the weakest place in the frame. That is because the human eye tends to rest to the right side of an image.
