Witness Update
When will my server be updated to the new HF?
After discussing this topic with the person I trust most on everything that concerns my server, namely: @someguy123 , the conclusion is that I as a backup witness should have it updated once we have a larger number of the consensus witnesses (aka âTop 20â) running it.
Simple as that.
What about my witness campaign?
It is all as was, server paid for in advance yearly, third year in a row, 4th year coming closer by the day.
So it isn't going anywhere.
Why am I not campaigning like in the past?
Is there any real point in doing so after the events of earlier on this year?
What I mean by that is, that things are the way they are on the voting scene, the dust has somewhat settled, but even after the new HF, it is still going to take a fair bit of time for anything to get back to ânormalâ in any voting scene out there. This is a viewpoint from a cold blooded realist.
No need for me to fib myself or anyone else on that topic. Such is life. We need to keep moving on in the given situation and apply our knowhow and skills gained through the course of our life in ways that are productive, rather than sit back and cry about what all is ânot rightâ.
I look at it as rebuilding from the ashes and ruins after a disaster. It is all a process that needs to be done methodologically. Which brings me to a point that I will not leave unstated:
Not everyone can be effectively doing everything out there.
i.e. Not everyone who is contributing to Hive can be working on all aspects, dare I say âJacks of all tradesâ. Some people are working on the chain, some people are working on the marketing and social media campaigns, some people are working on apps, some people are working on their own personal blogs, gaming and anything else that brings them rewards.
However much that is the reality, it sure seems to me that at times way too many people seem to have a âknow it allâ condescending opinion about everything. But such is life, this has not changed since 2017, from what I see.
Although these people are loud, that is fortunately not the case with many people out there who do look at the future and what all Hive has to offer this world.
This then brings me to the next topic that I wonât leave unsaid:
Motives
Different people have different motives; this is called âindividualityâ.
Some are looking to make a quick buck, which unfortunately is what much of the crypto scene is too well known for. Especially in the âshitcoinâ scene.
Some have a long term vision, which may be motivated by various things:
Some are looking to change things for people on this planet, to help make life better with crypto.
& by doing so, see the potential for their investment to maybe have a long term trickle effect/return.
What the motives may be, they are absolutely based on the individual and as such are all a part of the open, competitive market in both the tech and the currency/monetary aspects of this endeavour we are on.
Without one, the other is worthless.
So rather than be judgemental about the differences in views on the relevant topics, my personal choice is to go back to what I stated prior to this, that we all have an opportunity to concentrate on things that we are able to contribute to the best possible in the given ârebuilding phaseâ.
Having said all that, gotten it off my chest, literally saying it as I see it, hopefully nobody takes any part out of context, as all of it is interwoven.
Back to the witness update!
You may have noticed that I donât have a very positive attitude towards âshitcoinsâ aka âtokensâ or âsubtokensâ.
Unfortunately, the crypto scene has gotten a lot of bad actors who have abused these over the past four years.
& that entire negative image sticks to crypto, thanks to the flood gate of wham bam thankyou mam, grab the money and run scams out there.
While back in 2017 and 2018 SMTS may have been a great addition to the chain, so as to compete with the chains offering âtoken creationâ etc. Now I personally do not see why we would do that.
Anyone can as is, make their own sidechain and have those wishes or needs taken care of, without putting Hive and our two native currencies into the cesspool of âshitcoinsâ/âtokensâ.
We can instead concentrate on building our two coins, HIVE and HBD and ensuring that we are above and beyond any shitcoin mill of a blockchain.
Earlier this year, when it was relevant to look into any and all options available to us, I was prepared to put my views on the shitcoin market for the overall good of our chain. Not as a sole solution, but as a potential temporary cure to the damages done. Was not deemed as a good enough solution and luckily it was scratched off the list of possibilities.
Now, without any hesitation, I can state openly that sidechains are the long term solution, not some shitcoin mill. Imo we should not allow for HIVE and HBD to be directly associated with any shitcoin mill. Blockchain. All those chains and their shitcoin mill services have literally caused way too much damage to the crypto scene. For the little bit of âgoodâ that came from it, the damages incurred far outweigh any of the positives.
To back this, simply speak with anyone who has fallen victim to the âshitcoin millsâ.
Hard earned money, which represents a good part of their lives, all gone down the drain, thanks to âshitcoin mill blockchainsâ.
Not good in any way, manner or form.
Do we want to be a copy paste shitcoin mill blockchain?
Have made myself clear on that.
Level 2 can be achieved with a far more decentralized manner, by allowing for sidechains.
Sidechains, are independent entities, yet dependent on the mainchain for features that the sidechain incorporates from the mainchain.
& Not necessarily limited to currencies only.
But, I guess, that is something that will be decided upon in a different discussion, when the time comes for it. Til, then, I have stated very clearly my stance on these topics.
For the rest of this update:
Investing in Hive can be done in many ways, some prefer to purchase and stake HIVE, or HBD and put it into savings.
Some choose to invest into development.
My path shall be the later of the two.
Working with people I know and trust, in @fullalt , I see the long term vision of creating something well above and beyond what other chains offer to the 4.5 billion people on the internet.
I see that we can have our crypto currencies, HIVE and HBD being utilized in so many more ways than what we have seen to date. The opportunities are almost unlimited, when one enters that rabbit hole.
Likewise, this then all comes back to the economics of it all and the building of demand for the 370 million HIVE out on the open market.
Do we want that HIVE to have a diverse range of use cases all over the internet?
Or do we stick to the model by which it is only utilized for adding more pressure on the ârewards poolâ?
I personally, love the idea of diversity as far as the open market goes.
I personally, have no objection to further diversifying the distribution of the newly printed HIVE, sure, the more people that own it, the merrier.
But limiting ourselves to just the one use case and limiting the niches of use cases, heck no, that is a noose around our necks that we put there ourselves if we take that path.
Fuck Ned, fuck his wanna be privately owned clone of reddit aka steemit.com fuck that whole entire ball and chain of a mentality that has done nothing but stop us from expanding all over the internet to all the wonderful people looking for a better life. ALL 4.5 Billion of them.
That is where I see the future for our crypto currencies and building the demand needed for the 370 million HIVE out there.
âHIVE to the moonâ, exactly, fully agree.
âTokenize the internetâ, exactly, fully agree.
As long as we do it with our two native currencies, HIVE and HBD and do it in as many different markets out there on the internet.
Guess, I have said my piece, same old me, saying it as I see it. No gift wrapping.
Oh, btw. No more donations from me, till further notice. ALL my HIVE is booked for paying devs.
Likewise, the one and only place where I have an obligation/promise from earlier to donate to, I will be utilizing the HivePatron feature in HiveTips, with which it is all automated.
I have donated a lot of my crypto to various causes and efforts and just about all of those people donât even ask âHow ya going Jack? Howâs your family? Are you all well?â
So all my crypto and hard earned cash that I spent the best years of my life working hard for, will be utilized for building new features and paying hard working developers who deserve to be paid in a timely manner for their work. Which is the best thing I can do, as per the above described cold blooded views expressed, all of which I can back with facts and not âhear sayâ or âopinionsâ.
Had to state this here and make that very clear.
& on another topic, that I have not mentioned in a while:
What about UIâs/Front ends? More precisely, hive.blog.
Well, this is still something that I am definitely stating the exact same way that I stated it back in 2017 and all the time since then.
There needs to be a site for transparency purposes, that can serve as a humanly readable access point to the chain.
Imo it should not be a âblogging siteâ, but rather an access point via which people can easily manage their accounts on the chain, while at the same time easily see what all is on the chain.
Now, some may say âhiveblocks.comâ does that.
Yes it does, but it doesnât help those who wish to see the things being uploaded (posted) to the chain in a way that they can clearly see and read.
We are no longer in a position where a certain individual or company wishes to make a personal fortune or fulfil their personal egocentric dreams of owning their own clone of Reddit. (Fuck Ned to the moon).
So, now we can start looking at the condenser and its utilization from a decentralized angle and see how it can serve everyone, without it competing with the other blogging UIs, such as PeakD.
Again, maybe I have misunderstood the role of hive.blog and if so, I hope that we can set up a site for transparency and as a decentralized access point, that is humanly readable while at the same time, not presenting any type of competition to the UIs out there.
All of the above is a status update on my witness campaign, what I believe, why I believe it.
Almost a âWitness announcementâ which is probably the best thing to compare it too, as so many things have changed since Feb/Mar 2018.
Wish everyone a great day.
Hive is Alive!
Yours sincerely
Jack Miller
