Getting to know the land is a topic that many misinterpret to mean getting to know the terrain. The difference is that the terrain is the surface and the details that one needs to know about it, while when we say the land we are including everything that mother nature has to offer in that area.
Now that I have defined what I meant with the title of this post, we can move on.
In the tradition of many of my posts out there, so too shall this post finish with a "Think about it."
Lately I have been busy with many things in life and one of those is getting ready to adapt to the land in the area where we plan to build ourselves a family home.
Yes, "Getting To Know The Land".
Many people fail to understand the true nature of the land and what all it has to offer everyone and everything on this planet of ours. That is often referred to as "ignorance", but then again, my question is "WHY?" to many things, among which is the topic of;
Why is it that people too often do not know the land that they live on and are surrounded by?
Sure, OK, those living in concrete monstrosities of cities in which there is very little opportunity to actually be able to know anything apart from asphalt, concrete and maybe a park or two, that is understandable. But that is only a very minute little piece of the world we live in.
I will go with a very low figure of 'Over 80%' of the worlds surface is not "city" or "suburbia".
& adding to that I will state a very true fact that many times in some of the "suburbs" out there in the concrete jungles of the man made cities there is a green patch or two that is literally being wasted and slowly killed by it not being put to good use the way mother nature would have it if this was not a city!
So HOW can a person get in touch with the land?
Schooling?
Yeah sure, maybe, probably somewhat, but in reality, without the real hands on experience and life learning part of it, not much at all.
Yes, it is definitely a hands on topic.
So, rather than me type out a billion words about how people can go about it, here are some videos that are literally wonderful and inspiring on these topics at hand.
The first one here is the one that I find to be extremely "a hands on" approach to actually understanding what the land is able to give us and how we can ensure the land and us humans are in sync with each other, even in "suburbia".

I mean, seriously, this video is so down to earth.
No extreme radical views or scare tactics. Simple down to earth, rational and all relayed to all of us in a way that has to make us think about how little we really know about the land we live on. The land that surrounds us. How little we actually know and understand how out of sync we are with reality.
No, not what the politicians and other opportunists would have us think, but the reality of things. The total and utter lack of knowledge out there.
Why do I say this?
Because I need to learn everything all over again, from the few acres I was on in Europe, to the land that will be "Home" for my family, I am back to square one again.
Here I go again, but this time I am not all on my own. (Yes I took that from Whitesnakes song) This time I have many people from all sorts of backgrounds and views who are willing to help us to make it happen and to help us get in touch with Mother Nature in our part of the world and to get to know the land.
So there it is.
PLEASE go out and 'Give a Thumbs UP' to those wonderful people who made those videos for everyone. They are really trying hard to get a very rational and important message to people.
