I'm off of work for the day and I'm happy about that!
We have been having a REALLY hot summer this year. It's not that in the past we haven't had some hot days, but the hottest ones started much earlier this year and temps we usually see in August started showing up in June. Believe me when I tell you I have given the old air conditioner on this house a run for it's money. It was a very good brand when it was put here, but is now several years past it's warranty. You never know. Sometimes when something is quality, it lasts way longer than you expect.
For a while it was really dry here too, but in the last few weeks we have finally gotten a little rain off and on, so the grass, trees, flowers AND people are a little happier now. We could use even more of course.
I have this self-designed porch umbrella, well, not designed like you see it here, but the base is part of an old floor lamp that has a very heavy bottom and when the lamp shade broke, I took all the electrical parts off and out and one day when I needed shade for some of my plants, I attached my best umbrella to the top of it with plastic ties and it has worked famously. When I know it might rain, I move it away from my flower pots to the other side of the porch.
Last evening it was very windy and once when I looked out it had fallen over, something that has not happened previously. I sat it back up and moved it even further away from the flowers. Later when I went to close the mini blinds on the back door for the evening, I saw that the wind had flipped the umbrella wrong side out. It made me laugh!... but I decided to leave it that way all night and take a photo in the daylight this morning. After the photo, I flipped it back down like it should be and all was well. I found it fascinating seeing it flipped up like this.
About lunch time today I got an order from Amazon and part of it was this new rain gauge. The few times it rained a lot, I kept hearing people talking about getting this many inches of rain here and that many inches of rain there, so I decided I needed a rain gauge too! I put it out during my lunch break.
..... and now I'm waiting for rain. My Lexa said we might get some around 5 and now she says it is raining now, but I'm not sure she knows what she is talking about. 😂
