In my last post I told that I love art that has little houses in it. It seems I also love art that has sailboats in it too. I have never been on a sailboat and know nothing about navigating them or the such. Of course over the years I have see some here or there, far out on whatever body of water I was near and there was always something about seeing them that made me feel happy.
The closest I have ever been to one was parked in a driveway at a woman's house I used to work for and although it did have sails, I believe it was actually a catamaran of some sort.
Anyway.... sometimes I like playing with them. I have never played with them seriously though, so I don't really know if I could make anything valid or not, but when has that ever stopped me? 😂
This is my latest version. As you can tell it is very abstract and quite honestly, I had no idea I would call it a sailboat when I started as there was no intent in that direction. I put all the pieces of collage paper on that made up the background and it stalled. Then my eye spied the bright yellow/orange piece of paper in the pile of scraps at the edge of my workspace. I glued it on and that made it look like a possible sail to me. I then looked for a piece of paper that could possibly be the boat part and this is how it all landed. Like aways, it is odd and it's possible not everyone would see it, but to my eyes, there is a sailboat in there.
This one is a page in my Cook Book / Coffee Table Book I started playing in a while back. It is elementary as a lot of my art is, but I somehow really like it. I also love art with moons in it, so now there were two things I love. I also surprised myself by adding the points of white coming down across the water like the moonlight catching on the gentle waves. That part really made me happy.
Now for a commercial break. 🤣 Not really, but in case you needed to know, we got 2 inches of rain during the night. We really needed it. I posted a while back that I got this new rain gauge and the day I put it out we had been having a very bad drought here and the night after I put the rain gauge out, it rained so much it filled the gauge up to the top! It was amazing and fun. We have had a little rain off and on since then, but this 2 inches last night was the most we have had at one time since the gauge was originally filled up.
ok.... back to sailboat'ish things.
Another night I had no direction in my mind of what I wanted to do at my art table, so I pulled out a few pieces of my black copy paper and happily painted random things on some of it including another.... sailboat! Talk about elementary, but for real, there are some things my eyes still really love about it. The stars in the sky, but for some reason, especially the right side of the sail as the dabbed on brush strokes make it look all wavy. I love the brush strokes that make up the water too.
That same night, I started another piece like this. I like these colors on the black but.....
It turned out to just be an under painting that ended up like what you see on the left below. I am sitting here laughing about this. I'm not sure if there is anything there, a flying duck quacking at the moon?.... or blowing a bubble?.... somehow though, it appears there is a screaming head down on the bottom left, I really have no idea what is going on there.
When the person that created something has no idea what is going on with it.... there is a little something wrong there don't you think??

ok... I'm almost done and this is not a sailboat, but just an honorable mention piece. This was created on a piece of torn amazon packing paper. Turns out, I really loved how it looked the next morning when I came back. It's fun and interesting to me.

I will be headed to Mom's in a couple of hours. My knee is still being witchy, but a little better and it will be a test to see if I can get up or down her steps. Wish me luck!
