Happy New Year !

I don't have any fun photos of my new year's eve, because I didn't go anywhere or do anything special. The only thing I did do was switch over to the TV channel where they were showing the ball drop in Time's Square a few minutes before it dropped and then watched as they made effort to make things look exciting with nobody there. It was pretty much a flop from my point of view, but I knew they were doing the best that they could with the restrictions and all that.

Meh .... ha ha

So of course, like a lot of other people, I am hoping for some better news in 2021 when it comes to covid. I had more hope before I saw on the news about how the "powers that be" are pretty much bungling the organization of distributing and administering the vaccine. They have had quite a while to plan this thing out while waiting for it to be approved, but it seems nobody that was in charge was planning anything. Too sad ! I am hoping they get it together before long. This is WAY too important to just be handling it willy nilly all over the place.

Then too..... I have to hope that when they do get it together, that the vaccine really works. I can't say I'm 100% convinced, but I haven't given up hope and we have to try SOMETHING !

... so

My brother David, who we lost to cancer in 2016 loved Christmas as much as I do. Over time he gave me three Santas, two kitchen related and one Summer Santa. He had some himself and this year, his wife Tammy gave me one of his Santas. She had given it to him one year. Our father was a fireman early in his life and then the rest of his career he worked for the Department of Insurance for the state of NC, teaching different types of fire fighting related classes to volunteer fire departments all over the state. That was the significance of her giving him this particular Santa and now..... it has come to me to go with my collection. Yay !

now....

If you've been around a while you may have seen photos different years of our famous childhood tacky Christmas cookies. I make them every year for our family Christmas party. Of course we didn't have a party this year, but I still made a few, plus some Pecan Snowballs to take to my brother who always hosts that party, because those are the two things he has always requested I bring. I always took much more, but these two things were always included.

My Christmas day was pretty crunked up this year. Some of it I expected and prepared for, some of it was a surprise.

My siblings and Mom had planned a Zoom call at 11:30 on Christmas morning, about the time we normally meet out at Mom's. I prepared a thing or two I was hoping would help make the call fun. At the last minute though, my Mom's internet flopped and after my brother spent much time trying to help her get it back up by phone with no luck, the Zoom call was cancelled. WAH !! That was additionally bad because my brother first sent a group text to me and my sisters to let us know Mom was having a problem, that only one of my sisters received. It seems our phone companies don't play well together on text. By the time we realized that, more time passed and my brother again sent out a group text.... that's right, that only one sister got stating it could not be resolved and we'd try another time. In the mean time I'm sitting here waiting.... and waiting... and ... .you know .... waiting.

After a while I contact him again and find that I've been sitting here waiting for .... nothing. Clueless ...totally.....

One of those things I was going to share was this giant version of one of our family nostalgic cookies. I was going to pretend to tell them that I was trying to really cut back now and was only going to have ONE of these cookies for myself, then I planned to slowly raise the cookie into the zoom space where they could see it.

It was bigger than my head !

Big joke... right ?? This amazon was a foot long ! It was a beauty to behold as tacky Christmas cookies go. Yum Yum.... Over the next couple of days I ate a few pieces off of it as an emotion brighting sugar rush, but eventually had to trash it so I really would NOT eat the whole thing.

Oh well ! You know how that goes sometimes, the best made plans laid to waste and all that.

I hope everyone is adjusting and coping and finding some positive ways to spend these crazy times and that you all stay safe and live to see another holiday season.

That's what I will be trying to do.

Cheers to the New Year !

Love you ! Mean it !
