Waiting for the band

sitting alone in the deserted middle

9 rows with 5 chairs each

I sat, watching and observing

then came a thought from my heavy angered
mind

to write with my eyes and my hand

no thinking just putting down what i see

sitting, observing and writing

I write to you life from mercy place

a church located in bwari nigeria

waiting for the band to arrive and the music concert to start

Yet to start but perfect to write

a group of singers already seated
at the top extreme right of the hall

a few men, nine to be precise
doing the mic check

1-2, 1-2 can be heard loudly

a guitarist just walked pass me
he seem to know only a few people
makes me guess

he was an invited guest

little kids run up and down

getting lost in the midst of the crowd

mothers voices can be heard in-between lines of the sound check

crying out for their babies
like they were about to drown

A group of young men standing at the door
discussing

I wonder if they are ushers

no they are not uniformly dressed
my guess is they ran into each other

Through the windows I see

a set of singers

holding a brief discussion

100℅ sure it's part of preparation
for the event

Gradually the area at which I sit
is getting filled

already beginning to feel the heat

since it's a church event I hope people go home healed

How could I have forgotten to describe the stage
not my fault cos am writing with rage

the stage: marked out from the rest of the auditorium with four upwards steps
two speakers at the front edge

two long flower vases at the extreme end
so matching like the headlights of a Ford edge

blue colored tile background surrounded with
fluorescent lighting switching colours

making the stage sweet like a cake of different flavors.

My writing comes to an end
as a man dressed in native attire
mounts the pulpit and the concert starts
