Like I said after I Have recovered from a heart attack I continue walking through streets of Brussel.
I came to a sculpture Manneken Pis. 61 centimeter tall bronze statue at the corner of Rue de l'Etuves and Rue des Grands Carmes in 1619 by the sculptor Hieronimus Duquesnoy. The statue has been stolen several times, and the current statue is a copy from 1965. Original is kept in Maison du Roi.
The first legend says that in the 14th century the city was under siege, the enemies wanted to blast the city walls with explosives. While executing their plan to work,boy Juliaan from Brussels saw what they were doing, when attackers run from explosive, he pee on a burning fuse and saved the city.
The second legend says that a rich merchant lost his little son, so he asked other people to help him find his son. The search soon found his son urinating in the nearby garden. In gratitude to all those who helped him find it, the merchant built a fountain
After that I went to central square, The Grand Place or Grote Markt. It is surrounded by opulent guildhalls and two larger edifices, the city's Town Hall, and the King's House or Breadhouse building containing the Museum of the City of Brussels.
My tour ended in Hard Rock Cafe.
After meal in Hard Rock Cafe I went to Starbucks on coffee.
After coming back to hotel and preparing for tomorrow's lecture I had an unpleasant surprise.
my colleague informed me that after the conference in Brussels we are going to a 3 day seminar in Mastricht.
I have to admit that was a great shock. in the beginning I thought it was a joke ... but unfortunately it was not.
Did I mention that I packed things for just one day? 😱
