Phew, what a hectic week. Uni started for real now but I'll still try to post. Was also busy with therapy, waking up at around 5-6 am just to make it in time for classes. My sleep cycles are a bit messed up now.
I even had the materials for 2-3 posts but couldn't sit down to write from being tired or lazy.
To make this model I'd suggest slightly thicker paper since the model isn't exactly stable or resistant to squishing.
The units are made of triangles which are fun to fold, you need 60 to finish the model. A good way I figured it to make a hexagon which I showed here and then cut out the triangles, if you cut out the remaining paper you can get a total of 30 pieces from a single A4. the only important part is the 60* angle which you just pivot around, or you can make 3 hexagons and have some extra, one hexagon has 24 triangles:
Now to start with the model, fold the middle lines
Next edges to the middle
Fold everything towards the middle, hard to figure out if you don't try, fold over the corners neatly to one side
Fold each corner to it's other side so you have lines on both
Now flatten the corners using the last lines
Turn over
Fold the corners towards the middle
Turn over again
Pinch the sides so the model gets shape
Now gently curl the extra flaps and we're done, 59 to go
These units are very simple to remember since it's just going over back and forth.
to combine the just put one edge into the gap of another piece. A buckyball is a strong carbon structure of pentagons surrounded by hexagons. It's also known as fullerene, it's even a structure that's commonly used for footballs(soccer balls).
A good way to see it is every corner of a pentagon is touching another pentagon right across.
On another note, I took out my radishes, they tasted great, took a photo of one
The leaves are huge so I made a salad, some olive oil salt and apple vinegar, leaves can get very prickly and it tasted a bit grassy so I used the other leaves as compost. I also planted some beans, have a good Idea of tying some rope for them to climb on, not sure how tall this species get.
