Hello dear friends! How are you? Today I would like to take a little journey to the past and talk about videoclubs, where many movie lovers grew up renting Betamax and VHS tapes, even DVDs of our favorite movies, without further ado I'll start!
¡Hola queridos amigos! ¿Cómo están? Hoy me gustaría hacer un pequeño viaje al pasado y hablar sobre los videoclubs, donde muchos amantes del cine crecimos alquilando cintas de Betamax y VHS e inclusive DVDs de nuestras peliculas favoritas, sin más dilación ¡empezaré!
I remember that I liked them a lot, near my house there were 3 video stores where my dad rented a lot of movies, first we had a betamax but when it was damaged we bought a VHS in a video store which although it is no longer useful I still have. I enjoyed a lot when my dad would take me to choose movies, who didn't like to spend time going through the aisles full of movies to choose from? although sometimes my dad would buy me a movie or two we always rented quite a few.
Recuerdo que me gustaban bastante, cerca de mi casa habían 3 videoclubs dónde mi papá alquilaba bastantes películas, primero tuvimos un betamax pero cuando se dañó adquirimos en un videoclub un VHS el cual aunque no sirve todavía conservo. Disfrutaba mucho cuando mi papá me llevaba a escoger peliculas, ¿a quién no le gustaba pasar tiempo recorriendo los pasillos llenos de peliculas para elegir? aunque a veces mi papá me compraba una que otra pelicula siempre alquilábamos bastantes.
Even though we had video stores with a lot of variety nearby, I was much more excited to go to blockbuster video, how could I forget that place that when I was a child was like paradise for me, there were many children's movies to choose from and I liked to admire the covers, I also liked the walls full of posters and banners of the most popular movies, they were very entertaining what I called "movie rental afternoons" and as my dad was a member of both the video stores around here and blockbuster I enjoyed it a lot.
A pesar de que teníamos videoclubs con bastante variedad cerca me emocionaba mucho más ir a blockbuster video, como olvidar ese sitio que cuando era niña para mi era como el paraíso, habían muchas peliculas infantiles para escoger y me gustaba admirar las carátulas, también me gustaban mucho las paredes llenas de afiches y banners de las peliculas más populares que habían, eran muy entretenidas las que yo llamaba "tardes de alquiler de peliculas" y como mi papá era miembro tanto de los videoclubs de por aqui cerca como de blockbuster disfrutaba bastante.
Thanks to the video stores I became a movie collector especially when DVDs started to come out, although as I really liked the Disney VHS covers I collected almost all the animated classics and nowadays I still have a few of them. When I started to buy my collection I didn't go to blockbuster very often because my dad took me to buy in 1 video club located in Parque Central and in another one closer called Video Globo, there I got many imported titles in DVD which my dad bought for me.
Gracias a los videoclubs me volví coleccionista de películas en especial cuando empezaron a salir los DVDs, aunque como me gustaban mucho las carátulas en las que venían los VHS de Disney coleccioné casi todos los clásicos animados y en la actualidad todavía conservo unas pocas. Cuando empecé a comprar mi colección ya no iba a blockbuster con frecuencia porque mi papá me llevaba a comprar en 1 video club ubicado en Parque Central y en otro mas cercano llamado Video Globo, allí conseguía muchos titulos importados en DVD los cuales me compraba mi papá.
Unfortunately with the advent of the internet, download sites and streaming services like Netflix brought with it the bankruptcy of videoclubs, I remember that Video Globo closed for good in 2007 as well as the one that was in Central Park (although I visited Central Park recently and the place is still frozen in time with the covers on shelves and posters on the wall, Too bad I couldn't go in), and Blockbuster some time later, although it is interesting that there is still only one Blockbuster in the world located in Oregon USA, which would be quite interesting to visit to remember old times. Here when Blockbuster was about to close I had the opportunity to go and buy several rental movies.
Lamentablemente con la llegada del internet, las páginas de descargas y los servicios streaming como Netflix trajo consigo la quiebra de los videoclubs, recuerdo que Video Globo cerró definitivamente en el 2007 al igual que el que quedaba en Parque Central (aunque visité parque central hace poco y todavía está el local congelado en el tiempo todavía con las carátulas en estantes y afiches en la pared, lástima que no pudiera entrar), y Blockbuster un tiempo después, aunque es interesante que todavía quede un solo Blockbuster en el mundo ubicado en Oregon USA, el cual sería bastante interesante visitar para recordar viejos tiempos. Aquí cuando Blockbuster estaba por cerrar tuve la oportunidad de ir y comprar varias peliculas de alquiler.
The 90s left us with many beautiful memories, including videoclubs, although they are practically non-existent these days, they gave us days of entertainment and thanks to them many of us became movie fans, and although streaming services such as Netflix and Disney+ are very entertaining, they're not can be compared to the fun of visiting a videoclub.
Los años 90 nos dejaron muchos lindos recuerdos entre ellos los videoclubs, aunque ya son prácticamente inexistentes en estos tiempos nos regalaron dias de entretenimiento y gracias a ellos muchos nos volvimos fans del cine, y aunque los servicios streaming como netflix y disney+ son bastante entretenidos no se pueden comparar con la diversión que traía visitar un videoclub.
