Friends can make or mar your life. A purposeful person will be selective when choosing friends because your choices of friends or reading partner as a student will determine your direction, journey and destination in life.
Friends are destroyers and destiny builders. They can influence your life positively and negatively.
They can affect the way you think, react and they can also affect your spiritual life. So it is important that one should be careful with the choices of Friends
This is true because my choice of friend almost affected my academic performance in the university.
When I got admission into the university, I was supposed to stay in the hostel and so I got registered and I was given an accommodation in the school hostel.
I had some roommates who were very nice to me.
we became very close by reason of the fact that we lived together and we turned friends but then, they weren't people who took their studies seriously as I wanted to, but i couldn't actually resist them. They had the money and it was really fun living with them.
So they were people who were just ready to have fun in school. They had the money and the energy to just flex life in school.
This was strange to me coming from a different background but i was ready to explore with them anyways.
So i join them. I literally veered off from my primary assignment.
Began cultivating new habits like drinking and spending more time on social media.
I was thinking i would be able to balance academic and social life. This was not possible due to the high influence from friends.
To cut the story short, My results were abismaly poor. I had to advice myself.
I had to leave the hostel, got an accommodation outside. From that time on there was a significant positive change.
"Iron sharpeneth iron" the bible says.
For me, i look out for basic qualities like, purposefulness, trustworthiness, integrity, and wisdom.
However, while you look out for good qualities in a friend you must also posses these qualities because like minds attract
The need to choose good friends cannot be over emphasized.
