Under the flower sun, on a distant planet, far, far away; a brilliant man made an unusual discovery. He had an epiphany, a monumental, universe-shattering idea.
He was very prone to thoughts popping in and out of his head while he worked all day under the eaves of the orange crags he called home. But this idea…this idea was different.
It was special.
He looked around, scanning the wondrous bounty of his labor and realized that the universe was packed with beings who would revel in the delight of his hand-conjured product.
His product was easy to make, catered to an existing demand, had multiple uses and was novel enough to spark a trend. In addition, he realized that he could package it as a DIY project - beings could literally make their own, all they needed to do was add water.
“Haha!” He thought, “with a touch of clever marketing I’ll be a rich man in no time at all.”
He pondered an effective production strategy and understood that he needed an army of assistants so that he didn’t run out of stock once the fad took hold.
Cunningly, after interviewing a host of wannabes he worked out that the octopus, with its dexterous multiple-arm approach was equivalent to an entire workforce all on his lonesome. So he hired the creature and set about training the beast.
After several incredibly productive brainstorming sessions with the octopus, a thumb-sized, white spawn was born. The tiny gem was neatly designed - it could be dried for longevity and easily transported all over the galaxy.
Spiders could always be relied upon to spin a good yarn, so he hired a selection of arachnids as a sales and delivery team. Then he used Google’s Map of the Universe to connect a series of outlets; a cohesive web of business.
All that remained was to fashion an event that would ensure effortless distribution.
He wanted to be remembered for his brains, inducted into the hallowed halls of fame.
“Yes, hallowed halls.” He thought, and then he had it, the final piece of the puzzle.
“I’ll call it Halloween!” He decided, “and include a manual on exactly how to use the seeds so that the DIY product is ready for the event.”
“Halloween and pumpkins 🎃.” He shouted, excitedly, “and I’ll be The Pumpkin Head.”
An universal empire began with the slogan:
Plant before watering. Eat before carving. Safe to use as a lantern, to light your way.
