There is a story about this temple that will be very interesting if you know it. Called Phimeanakas which means Heavenly, this temple is really different from other temples, even in terms of story and also its architectural design.
The story is really not made up, I heard from our guide that the story of this temple is really unique, where this temple is a place where the king was held captive by a snake that transformed into a beautiful woman. Because of the snake's obsession, the king had to follow the woman's wishes to stay overnight at the temple every day. There is no day without staying at the temple, not even being allowed to miss a night, then, the king's life could be over and the kingdom would be hit by a disaster. You can even get this story on the Angkor Wat website, Siem Riep. From the story of this temple, can you understand why this temple is called a heavenly temple?
Not far from Bayon Temple, only 200 meters away and you will automatically know it from the architectural design which is very different from other temples in Angkor Wat. Its shape, which is more like a pyramid, is the main highlight, like a temple dedicated to God.
The unique thing about the architecture of Phimeanakas Temple is that the building is still intact even though the top is a little porous. The stones and walls still seem very strong and are even more clearly visible in the initial form of this temple. The land area and temple building are not too large like other buildings, but this temple is quite high, around 40 meters from the top of the building. It seems that this temple is still used as a place of worship, as seen from the golden umbrella that is still very beautiful right above the temple.
This temple has unique characteristics, guarded by lion statues and elephant statues that are still visible. One of the most important corners is the entrance to the top of the temple. Although not closed by a barrier, I hope you don't climb this temple, because it looks like the stairs are very steep and you might slip. If you fall, it will be very dangerous.
One beautiful corner of Phimeanakas Temple is this tree with a twisted trunk. Located right next to the temple and also the stone marker for the temple. Indeed, this temple is very shady because it is close to the forest, at least on this very warm afternoon I can still feel the wind blowing and the shade of the trees for shelter.
Phineanakas Temple was also restored by the help of the Chinese government.
