Here's a portrait painting from my sketchbook. Yesterday, it was an experiment with acrylics. Today, it's a test with gouache.
Just another piece for me to play around with paints. Digital painting is good and practical and all, but from time to time I feel the need to take the paints and brushes in my hand, feel the texture, let them flow. This was one of those days. It's Hikari Hoshino, one of my oldest OC's. I think I was around 13 when I created her. Playful, cheery and though quite a bit of a scaredy cat, she's very curious as well. You will be seeing her in my drawings more. I enjoy drawing her messy appearance and lively hair.
To be honest, as much as I enjoy playing around with gouache paints, they're not my favourite. I have a shaky relationship with them. I see people coming up with masterpieces with the paints and envy them, get excited about trying myself and fail after a point, haha. Thill, the joy I get in the process is worth eveything!
Excuse my shadow with the phone. No good light setup is a bad thing for artists :(
The hair strands were the most fun part!
Freckles with paint splatters. Easy to do, but I think putting on individual spots look better.
