Basellaceae (Basellaceae) is a family of high-level dicot plants of the order caryophyllales (Caryophyllales). They are fleshy, herbaceous vines with alternating simple leaves and small flowers, found in tropical America, Africa and Madagascar. Some species serve as food. Bulbs are old cultivated plants native to the Andes of South America.
