Nasi Lemak or best describe as a Malay fragrant rice dish cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaf. It is commonly found in my home country, Malaysia, where it is considered our national dish. It is also a significant native dish in neighbouring countries such as Singapore, Indonesia & Brunei; though they may call it in other names such as Nasi Kukus. This is one of the most famous dishes for a Malay-style breakfast but believe me when I say that we now eat it for all meals at anytime of the day or night.

A buffet table of side dishes to select

One of my favourite local shops serving Nasi Lemak or Nasi Kukus is Warong Nasi Lemak Panas Warison Sambal Opah. Located in a corner coffeeshop, it only opens in the evening till early morning. Diners like me would come after work and que up to buy our nasi lemak that cost MYR1 per packet.

A small packet

The fried chicken drumstick is the best!

Oh Yes ! It's dirt cheap but it's also a small pack. Their focus isn't on selling the nasi lemak but more on the side dishes such as fried chicken, squid, beef, mutton and etc. Most patrons would order at least 2 packs of nasi lemak per person and add on the side dishes. Their sambal is to die for; sweet and spicy, just the perfect combination. I'm not sure if it's me, but I have somehow not been able to managed the spiciness of the sambal as before. Perhaps being in Vietnam for a mere 6 months have changed my taste buds. Though I'm glad with the change because I now prefer more healthy food as compared to the oily, spicy and fattening food which I grew up in my entire life.

Sneak peak dishes #2

Nevertheless, I consider this my CHEAT WEEK because it isn't everyday that I get to indulge myself in such luxury, delicious and UNHEALTHY food !

Just yummy !

So, if you are ever in this area, do drop by and tryout their nasi lemak. Absolutely no regrets and make sure you take at least 1 fried chicken drumstick. That's the trump card of the entire buffet.
