Keri decided she really needed a break, even just for a few minutes. She found a small group of douglas fir trees in the last bit of forest, as far as the eye could see. A few or them were grouped close together, and they looked like they would make a decent place to rest for a bit.
The wind and snow was starting let up as she hunkered down underneath the branches of those glorious fir trees. She was beginning to feel a little bit better, and her thoughts were beginning to clear.
"I will give myself a few more minutes, then I need to move out." She declared, giving herself some much needed marching orders.
Leaving this small bit of shelter was going to be a bitter pill to swallow. She mustered up all the remaining courage she had left, and made her way up to the ridge of the mountain.
As she was walking, she came along some fresh tracks in the snow. These were human tracks.
Her mind began to race with thoughts of impending doom, and the possibility of a rescue. Following these tracks is a gamble, but in her current circumstance, she had no other choice to make. Humans can be a dangerous lot, or a benevolent bunch... it's really a crap shoot. When dealing with apex predators, you had better watch your back.
She thought she recognized the mountain she was on, as it looked very familiar. It was difficult to tell in this weather. Walking in the dead of night was absolutely no help either. If she was correct, things would definitely be looking up.
She continued following the fresh tracks for the next few hours. After which, she noticed the tracks made a small detour off the ridge. Her curiosity peaked. She decided to follow along, and take the detour.
My five minutes are up, and so is Pt. 3. :D
