When you're the test case, the only one doing the thing, it's easy for the testers claiming any failure of yours is therefore universal. The whole "we don't want them here" mindset can lead to a lot of specific selective blindness conjoined with microaggressions. Not as overt as what happened to Ms Bridges, but still.
Endless days of "it's just a word" and "sticks and stones" and "aren't you Deathworlders tougher than that?" can lead to a child not asking for help.
