Nils asks about buying more shed fur, at a rate higher than what the recycler was paying. In return, the show the knitted and crocheted handicrafts he had been working on after plying and dying the long fur and turning it into yarns and threads. They even offered to split the proceeds of selling these crafts with their friend 50 / 50.

"Baby clothing," repeated Lech.
"And non-allergenic accessories," clarified Nils, "and some furnishing options. Your fur is amazingly soft, and absolutely nobody's allergic to any bits of fluff. Heck, your fibrous structure repels micro-mites. It's practically perfect. How much is the molecular recycler giving you?"
"Not much, honestly. Minutes. But Minutes are better than seconds, and seconds are better than nothing."
"How would you like half an hour per pound[1]?" Nils offered. "I know it's a seasonal thing, and availability's limited, but you and your family could have a real business going with your seasonal fluff. Check this sample."
It's not often that one gets to feel a knitted sample of one's own body hair. It's even rarer to want to. "Er..." said Lech. "I'd rather take your word for it."
Nils realised exactly what he was asking Lech to do. "Oh. Right. Yeah. Sorry. Trust me. Humans find this really soft and lovely. We really like the yarn from the fuzz you shed. There's high demand for the work, and you know how handmade yarn art sells for Hours on the Second."
The potential income alteration had Lech thinking the previously unthinkable.
"Spinning, dyeing, and crochetting my own body hair?" Lech repeated. Not with as much inherent revulsion as earlier.
"I know. Conceptually, it's a lot ick. You can just pass over the fluff to my fellow maniacs and I and then we'll take care of the rest."
"Half an hour per pound," Lech repeated.
"Easy. You might even get more from the sales. We talked about it and we can definitely cut you in."
"You know," said Lech. "This is going to make combing during shedding season feel a lot more rewarding."
