What looks like an ordinary cat is sitting on the slightly crumpled lip of a garage awning. However, those that can see through the illusion realizes it's a young dragon watching the humans quietly. -- Anon Guest

As far as domestic cats were concerned, this one was a bruiser. Larger than the average housecat, and clearly a shorthair. It was also clearly nestled on a bent portion of roof. Some humorous images could circulate if anyone paid attention to it.

In this area of urban sprawl, nobody paid it any heed. People went about their own errands, with their own concerns chiefly in view.

They didn't look up, look to their neighbours, nor look at the world around them. They didn't see past themselves. Their self-interest was so compact that it obfuscated everything else that they should have noticed. Including the fact that this cat... was not a cat at all.

They were a Dragon. Watching the world to see if it was ready for magic once more.

Though this was an admittedly small area to survey, the Dragon known as Loryllyp knew that people lived like this more often than not. It was the most common way that people with enough time and energy to dream tended live.

In identical houses on identical roads. Inside vast labyrinths made more for vehicles than for people. Under rules that were more concerned with how everything looked and would therefore be worth, rather than what the people living there liked.

A place, in brief, where people could afford to dream, but had the capacity for dreaming drained out of them by the society surrounding them.

A place where fear of the rules overwhelmed any personal desires, until they were almost too old to indulge them.

A place of refined boredom and uniformity. Where all present were judged by what they had and what they used.

It was not looking great for this world.

Loryllyp's attention was drawn to what stood out. A kiddie pool, and the small child playing in it, under the supervision of his grandad. A splash of colour in the middle of the beige monotony.

The child's attention was drawn to Loryllyp as well. "Look, gran'da! Issa Dragon."

The grandfather squinted up. "Hm. How 'bout that. Must be checking on us to see if there's any imagination here."

So. There might yet be hope after all.
