There are not just four elements. This should be known. Beyond Earth, Air, Fire, and Water, there are alternate powers. Light, Shadow, Law, and Chaos. They are not always the opposites you might think they are. They are not always the powers you might think they are, either.
People in the mortal realm use all of them to varying degrees. Even those with barely a speck of magic in their nature can use them. Some learn how to connect with them. Others are gifted. One is a Fair-Weather Cleric.
Fair-Weather friends are the ones who are only warmly inclined when it is to their benefit. Fair-Weather Clerics, as Brady Blazecaller defines it, is a Cleric for all circumstances. One who worships the deity who answers first, and gifts them with: Faith, Sacrifices, and a quick burnt offering[1].
It's very handy in realms where worshipping just one deity would be ineffective at best, and deadly at worst.
It's not so fortuitous in the literal realm of Chaos. Asdf'ghaj recognises no gods, knows no rules, and is almost as annoying as Nanogh. And when battles happen with divine magic involved, that magic comes from the very realm itself.
Brady tried to incinerate the approaching Horrors. What happened instead was a feeling of greater wisdom and lesser charm. Oh. This was all wild magic. Because the entire plane was wild magic. There had to be a way to make this work in their favour.
A second attempt, and all the fiends turned away from Brady's aura. All right. This was something they could work with.
Izotiye tried her hand at it, "Okay, I just failed to turn myself into a sheep. What the flying hellspawn?"
"Wild magic. It's all going to go to shit," said Brady.
Diwe smirked. "This is my element," and immediately tried to do something... and the terrors that weren't turned away already came to the crew's defence.
"Oh gods," muttered Mav the Rogue. "Ze's going to be insufferable about this for weeks after we get back to the mortal plane."
"You know it," singsonged Diwe. "Y'all owe me drinks and dinner as tha-anks."
The mutual groan of anguish was drowned out by the flying phuks that manifested around Diwe.
