A highly arrogant Deregger decided to send to the "alliance scum" all of the "unwanted wastes of space." The elderly unable to work anymore, the "r-words" in their view who were not worth keeping alive, the disabled, the drug-addled wastrels, etc. Why? To try to swamp them with the "wastes of society" and prove that these individuals were too much for anyone to keep alive. It... backfired. -- Anon Guest
It seemed like a brilliant flash of genius to the Deregger community. Ship out all the "drains on society" to the "bleeding heart Galactics" and thus give Them all the problems and laugh as they struggled.
Not just the poor, the weak, the huddled masses yearning to be free, but also: the druggies, the criminals, the physically impaired, the single mothers, the elderly, and the mentally disabled. If you were weighed in the balance and found wanting, then you would have a free ticket to Alliance Space.
And the CEO's laughed as the space busses flew out in a daisy chain towards the self-righteous and sanctimonious Galactics. Their problem, now. All they had to do was sit back and wait for the unworthy to leech all the money from the Alliance system. They waited in eager anticipation for the news.
Silence there, and nothing more.
They heard about the influx of 'refugees' as the Galactics called them. They heard about the rush to accommodate them, and the confusion to find places where care would be available.
The CEO's rubbed their hands in glee when they heard that an entire resort planet was being used as an emergency hospice for all those needing and needy people. That had to cause ripples. That had to disrupt the flow of order as the wealthy could no longer holiday. Those arrogant Alliance people would soon feel the stinging slap of the invisible hand!
They listened and watched in growing horror as helpers were found. There were jobs even the mentally disabled could do. Replacement limbs for those missing them. Exoskeletons for any who wanted them.
There was therapy for the druggies and the criminals. And childcare for the single mothers. Assistant Augments for the elderly and the mentally disabled alike. Millions of strangers, willing to care for them all.
Guaranteed housing for all, even if someone had to print it.
The economy of the Galactic Alliance barely hiccoughed. In fact, their profits didn't even dip. They improved.
They had to be cheating, somehow. They had to be covering something up. But... there was no evidence for it anywhere.
In the end, they had to stop their scheme because valued living resources were mutilating themselves just to get on the bus.
