I read your latest story while at work. My coworkers wondered what the cackling was about, but I couldn't help it, it was just too amusing. I saw the comment and I would like to second it. Would you do a story where the individuals actually arrive at, and participate in, the food eating competition?

Food! Glorious food! Daiv was anxious to try it. Gleaming piles of deep-fried glorious caloric indulgence. Hal had pinned a sash to Daiv's torso that read LACTOSE INTOLERANT in large, friendly letters. Just in case they got separated.
Daiv was not prepared to leave Hal's side just yet. Thranityr still had a reputation amongst many cogniscents. The little FRIEND badge that helped keep the sash on may not be as much help as Hal seemed to think it was.
"Where are the legendary deep fried mars bars?" asked Daiv, facial tentacles dribbling in anticipation.
"I'm lookin', I'm lookin'," Hal exchanged some small coin for some of the Humans' famous food-onna-stick. "Have some deep fried pork belly to tide you over. Don't eat the stick. It's not meant to be eatable."
Which was code for, I know you can devour that, but please don't. You'll frighten the horses. Daiv focussed on the meat, fat, and skin. "I shall save the stick for later," Daiv whispered.
"I'll get you a snackie bag. Oh! There they are. Sign-ups for the eating competitions."
Daiv was already gone, joining the cluster of folks looking at the options available. There were gleeful, joyous shouts of, "Deep fried mars bar! Strawberry pie! Punkin pie! Takoyaki! Oodles of noodles!"
Laura, running the snack baggie stall, boggled at the frightening levels of joy. "Looks like Vern the Vacuum is going to have some stiff competition this year."
"Yup. Just keep 'em away from dairy products and all is well."
