"You need to stop and get some sleep!"
"Aw, just one more page?"
"We have work in the morning."
The human grumbled, put the book away, sighed, and fell asleep almost as soon as their head hit the pillows.
"Silly, sweet human, you look after us, and we look after you." -- Anon Guest
Humans, though they may deny it, need their Companions. Humans are rough around the edges, tough against many opposing forces, and many have a gruff demeanour. This is all true.
They are also very silly creatures who can forget where they put small, everyday objects.
Make no mistake, we love Human Can. She's the team mother, everyone's BFF, and can get obsessive about things to the point of self-detriment. She takes care of us, she cares for us. And we care for her. She needs it.
There's a book series that Can adores, and the newest one has hit the infonet libraries. Like most book series, each book is very long and situations within are complicated. It's no surprise to find Can ignoring her sleep in favour of "just one more".
"Just one more" has caused too many things to be ruined. It has even killed.
We will not have our Human harm herself with "just one more".
So, as a faithful Companion who cares for their Human, I intervene. "It is past your hours for slumber."
"Aw, c'mon Lanh, I'm at a really good bit. Just one more chapter?"
"There is much to do tomorrow, and you need your rest."
"Can I just finish this chapter? It's only two more pages..." Can wheedled.
"Would you rather be blinky tomorrow and miss potential dangers?"
"Just one more page?"
"You need your rest, silly Human. The book will be there tomorrow."
Grumbling and whining, "Aw, but I wanna read it now..."
"Do I have to sit on you?"
"Well, I wouldn't mind teddy-hugs."
That's a benefit of being a fluffy and squeezable Havenworlder. Being able to share a bed-space for a Human's comfort. No matter how rough, tough, or gruff they are, they all like soft, squishy, and fluffy things to hold when they're in a low mood.
If you can withstand them, Human hugs are amazing. My first one realigned three spinal joints.
Can didn't squeeze for long. She was asleep before she sank into the cushioning of her bed niche.
Silly Humans. They're really lucky we love them as much as they love us.
