"You can't do this to me, I know my rights," CEO Martlebury Fauntleroy Jenkyns tried to struggle against the Mediks. "This so-called treatment is making me worse! Radiation sickness is fake news! Coughing up blood is perfectly normal..." he finally ran out of breath and collapsed in the bed.
In a moment, the aforementioned coughing would begin.
The Mediks worked as quickly as they could. Adding medicines to his bloodstream. Furnishing him with nanite suites that would repair what they could of his body. It would not be easy to save his life, but they would try.
Other survivors of the world were in a similar condition, but not necessarily a similar attitude. Many lay limp and meek, rag dolls who were terrified of doing something wrong and therefore did nothing.
Some protested, but they did so as if reciting holy writ. The diatribe they spouted was what they had been told, and therefore all they knew. Confronted with a simple, friendly, "That's not what we do here," they shut down.
This is the Medik ship Mercy Mission, and it is busy with the survivors of the Empire of Sacred Acquisition. Once also known as Greater Deregulation Lower Nor-Northwest. Of an entire planet's population, only a few hundred survive.
Some may not be surviving very long.
Which is the reason why a team of Mediks is working so hard to preserve CEO Jenkyn's life.
He has to face the consequences.
He wanted glory. He wanted riches. He wanted fame that would last through eons. He will only get one of those three.
