A human is having a very stressful day at work, one of their coworkers is small, fuzzy, and just got done with work. So the human asks if their coworker would sit with them and talk for a while to help alleviate the stress. -- Anon Guest
Life as a Human's Companion has all sorts of interesting angles. The best ones for the job are what they call "Tactilely Rewarding". Either soft and fluffy and pleasant to pet, or possessing smooth scales that are also pleasant to pet.
A general immunity to assorted Human effluvium is also recommended, but they make protective gear for that.
Today, Companion Dian has had some clear signs that his Human has been having A Day. It is never a good day when a Human has one, and oh Powers, the terminology was digging its way in.
It was the silent screaming. Always a dead give-away.
"That flakking does it," cried Human Dag. "I'm clocking the flakk out. Flakk this flakking flakkshow!"
"Bad day at the office?" Dian guessed.
"It isn't just sideways. It's topsy-turvy and inside-flakking-out. Today is not behaving. I've had e-flakkin'-nough."
"You need the soft corner and a guided meditation audio."
"And a hot chocolate, and a blankie and..." Dag blew air out between his lips. "Can I snuggle you?"
"Oh, it's that bad a day. I knew this would happen when I ranked highly in positive tactile feedback."
"You're soft and fluffy and your beans are nice and squishy," translated Dag, already headed for the soft corner. "I may or may not bitch about my day."
"One: you desperately need to vent. Two: It's what I'm here for. Three: mental health and wellbeing is just as important as the physical stuff. Four: I am highly trained in pleasant and non-commital noises."
Dag landed face-first in the beanbag and screamed into the stuffing. This one was certainly what the Humans called "a doozy".
