The Humans were very still. There were twenty of them, each concentrating on a screen. It was utterly silent. One of them might mumble now and again, but otherwise, they were transfixed. The only noise was the movement of mice and the click of W A S D keys.
Companion Vresk was only sure of one thing. This was some form of pack bonding activity. These Humans were, if not friends, at least associates in a complicated web that would take weeks to unriddle if Vresk really wanted to work at it.
One of the Humans, apparently investigating something they could see, said. "Ooh, hey. Secret passage. What's down there?"
"Nori, don't!"
Three people said, "Hey, noob."
Human Nori cried out, "Aaaw, come on... Aren't I allowed to look around?"
"Nori, you dumb sack o' shit..."
Two others singsonged, "Nori took the noob toob."
The room filled with laughter.
"Hey, I like exploring my environment, so sue me. We'd have been better in Minecraft."
"Aaah, shuddup about your cube game. PVP is way more fun."
"Oooooh... what's this one," said Nori.
"Aw flakk. The noob has the big boomstick."
Ten people said, "Flaaaaakk..."
"Nori," said the team leader. "You need to get to a wide open space before you shoot anything with that."
"Kay... now what?"
"Aim at the other guys and shoot."
Ten people shrieked and then laughed.
"And that, my dear noobie Nori, is what we call a teamkill."
"You're right. PVP is way more fun."
Only Humans would bond by simulations in which they kill each other.
